Dear Future Niles High School Families,
Scheduling for the 2025-26 school year will begin with your 8th grader soon. On February 10th, your child will visit Niles High School and meet staff members, receive an overview and tour the building. Later in the spring, our counselors will visit the middle schools to once again provide an overview of graduation requirements and the programs and electives available.
I invite you to attend Parent Night to review graduation requirements, programs and elective options on Monday, February 10th at 7:00 at NHS. After this presentation, we invite you to stop into the gym to visit booths providing information on CTE courses, activities and clubs.
We hope you are able to attend. If you are unable to attend, please review the resources/links in this email. Further, we have these resources on the Niles High School webpage under "Academics and Guidance" and "Scheduling your Classes."
The majority of high school graduation requirements involve the Michigan Merit Curriculum. These are the courses every high school student has to earn credit in to obtain a high school diploma. Niles High School requires these 18 credits plus 8 elective credits for a minimum of 26 credits that must be earned within a four year period.
The Michigan Merit Curriculum, MMC, includes: (MMC Audit/Worksheet)
English: 4 credits
Math: 4 credits
Science: 3 credits
Social Studies: 3 credits
Foreign Language: 2 years of the same language
Visual, performance, applied arts: 1 credit
PE: 1/2 credit
